Lena was born in Russia and completed both an artistic (Dubna Art School, Dubna, Russia, 1979) and mathematical (MS in Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics, Moscow State University, Russia, 1985) education there. She worked as a mathematician and kept her artistic endeavors a hobby until moving to America in 1999, when the art fully took over and she decided to make it her full-time profession.
Since then, Lena has had several exhibitions in the US and Russia. Her works currently live all around the globe in private collections and have been displayed in galleries and events. Her main areas of work have been privately commissioned portraits as well as still-life and landscapes, dipping into a variety of styles like surrealism and realism. Lena has also explored other artistic endeavors such as painting murals, decorating unique performance costumes, and designing creative product packaging for a coffee business.
For the last five years, Lena has been fascinated by using cardboard to create art. It all started when she got a package, ripped it, and suddenly saw Manhattan in the ridges that were revealed by the tear. Since then, cardboard cities have sprung up out of her recycling regularly, sometimes fantasy ones from old books and sometimes real ones where she and her friends have lived.
